BOXING CLASSES

In no sport is the temptation stronger than boxing to run before you can walk.

It is the temptation more strenuously than others to be resisted.

You must learn to stand in position before you begin to hit.

MEET YOUR COACH
Joseph Anthony

Joseph “Stacks” Mejia comes from a proud family of boxers. His father, Jose Mejia, trained out of John’s Gym in the Bronx, NY while pursuing a professional career, and his uncle, Luis Mejia, trained and boxed in California on the same path. From an early age, Joseph was immersed in the sport, first watching his father train, and eventually stepping into the ring himself.

Joseph began his boxing journey at John’s Gym in the Bronx before moving to Queens, NY, where he trained at the Lost Battalion PAL under the guidance of Stephen and Tony Maiorano. There, he developed his craft and gained the experience that would launch him into amateur competition.

Years of dedication opened the door to train under legendary coaches Andre Rozier and Gary Starks in Brooklyn, NY. Under their tutelage, Joseph competed in multiple amateur bouts and tournaments, preparing for a professional career.

A car accident ultimately halted his path as a professional fighter, with injuries to his spine and knees forcing him to retire from competition. But the love for the sport never left. Instead, Joseph transformed his passion into a career as a boxing coach.

For over a decade, Joseph has dedicated himself to developing fighters through proven strategies, sound fundamentals, and a system built on discipline, conditioning, and real ring experience. He has studied both world-renowned champions and underappreciated fighters to create a unique approach that builds complete boxers from the ground up.

Today, Coach Joe Mejia is a certified USA Boxing Coach with countless hours in the gym and ringside experience. His mission is simple: to teach the art of boxing to anyone willing to learn — from beginners building confidence to athletes preparing for competition.

Beyond boxing, Joseph also brings a background in nutrition and fitness, helping athletes improve not just in the ring, but in their everyday health and performance.
